Ventilating Substations

We utilized Firemac FM Blue, for our Keybridge House project. With 3 basement substations being fed from a UKPN primary, also within the building, We were required to provide a 60-minute cable circuit integrity for the HV feeder cables. We also needed to provide a combined ventilation and blast duct system for 2 of the substations in the event of a fault.

HPS and Firemac provided the cable solution in a custom built and designed trunking system. The cables were run into FM Blue trunking, internally lined with Rockwool, and sealed from substation to substation. This was teed off into a Temporary Building Supply (TBS) substation whilst remaining fully protected, and a combined install length of 350 meters!

The first two substations required ventilation to the ground floor as they contained transformers and so needed ventilation and a blast path if there were to be a major fault. The cross-sectional areas were calculated by Firemac to allow for the airflow and pressure relief.
